Kent's new Police and Crime Commissioner comes to Hoo!

It was really good to be invited along to meet Kent’s new Police and Crime Commissioner, Ann Barnes, yesterday afternoon, at Taggs Coffee Shop in Hoo. The purpose of the meeting, organised by Hoo Parish Council Chairman Lionel Pearce, was to discuss policing and crime.

Much of the meeting was spent discussing general concerns about policing and crime, but we also discussed specific issues, such as the the recent and terrible assault in Knights Road - an incident that is worrying many villagers at the moment.

As well as the new Police and Crime Commissioner, we were joined by our new area sergeant, a PCSO, Medway Council’s community officer Johnny Robinson and the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Safety - Cllr Mike O’Brien. It was a positive and productive meeting and I very much hope that only good will come from it.

In the meantime, please report all crimes you see to the Police. Call 101 (non emergencies) or if a life is in danger or a crime is in progress, dial 999. You can also phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Burglary in Hoo - appeal for witnesses!

Tom Taggart, who runs Taggs Coffee Shop in Hoo, has asked that I publish an appeal for witnesses to a burglary that occurred at his storage yard on Abbots Court Road (off Vicarage Lane in Hoo).

The break-in is believed to have happened between 7pm on Saturday 18 June and 8am the following morning.

Items stolen include a vehicle trailer, a BCS 740 2-wheeled tractor (similar to the one pictured below) and numerous horse riding items belonging to his daughter.

Tom is especially keen to hear from anyone with home and business CCTV cameras with views of Bells Lane, Main Road and Stoke Road, i.e. all exit roads from the village centre.

Anyone with information should contact Medway Police on 01634 792346 (the Neighbourhood Policing Unit for the area) or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Alternatively, Tom Taggart can be phoned directly on 07980 752836.

Vandalised: Allhallows Recreation Ground (children's play area)

Following an earlier post about the recreation ground in Allhallows being vandalised, further information has now been supplied by Kent Police:

Police in Medway are appealing for information after a playhouse was damaged at the recreation ground in Allhallows. It’s believed the damage was done on Friday 13 August, sometime between 8pm and 8.50pm. A playhouse was targeted and around £500 worth of damage was caused.

Local Neighbourhood Officer, PC Mick O’Meara said: ‘This appears to be mindless vandalism which serves absolutely no purpose. The people responsible need to think about their actions and realise that their behaviour has led to the playhouse not being able to be used and also a big repair bill. Kent Police in Medway will not tolerate any kind of criminal damage and if caught, those responsible will be arrested and could end-up with a criminal record.’

Anyone with information about the damage can contact Kent Police on 01622 690690, quoting crime reference number DY/012872/10.
