New Year's Eve at Taggs

I popped into Taggs Coffee Shop in Hoo today and had a good chat with my old mate Tom Taggart.  He told me all about a fun evening he's planning at Taggs Wine Bar on New Year's Eve.

If you’re looking for somewhere fun and local to go on 31st December, Taggs Wine Bar is the place for you!

You'll be able to enjoy the last few remaining hours of 2016 with host Tom and a popular group called Sold on Soul, who'll belt out many classic soul, funk and disco tunes, from 9pm.  This group has performed at Taggs before and were well received.

Tickets are £15, just pop to Taggs (Church Street, Hoo, ME3 9AH) to get yours, but don't leave it too long.

Big turnout for the Hoo Clean Up!

The April Hoo Clean Up (pictured below on the May event poster) was possibly the most well attended session to date.

20 local residents came along to help collect litter from the village square, the car parks behind Co-Op and Spar supermarkets, Church Street and parts of Main Road, Stoke Road, Vicarage Lane and Bells Lane.

Another fantastic effort from the volunteers, finished off with refreshments and some tasty nibbles back at Taggs Coffee Shop.

Having attended every Clean Up event since they were created in January 2012, it was especially nice on this occasion to welcome along a few new faces. The next opportunity to get involved will be on Saturday 25 May at 9.30am. The meeting point will again be Taggs (Church Street, Hoo).

The Hoo Clean Ups are supported by Village Voices (the community magazine for Hoo and Chattenden), MHS Homes and the Keep Britain Tidy campaign. No funding is received (or sought) from Medway Council or Hoo Parish Council.

Snow bother for Hoo Clean Up!

The February Hoo Clean Up took place this morning, despite the odd heavy snow shower (as can be seen from the photo below).

18 people and 2 dogs came along to help and 12 bags of rubbish were collected - a brilliant effort!

As well as clearing litter from around Hoo Village Square - volunteers also tackled mess left in the car parks behind the Co-Op and Spar supermarkets. Attention was also given to parts of Bells Lane, Main Road, Church Street and Stoke Road.

After today's session - everyone enjoyed some tasty cake and sandwiches at Taggs Coffee Shop.

Join the fight against litter by joining the next Hoo Clean Up session on Saturday 30th March, at 9.30am - your village needs you! This session will begin at The Chequers pub in Church Street, Hoo.

Get ready for a big Jubilee party in Hoo Village Square!

The Hoo Village Events Committee are hard at work organising ‘The Queen’s Big Diamond Jubilee Lunch Party’. The event is taking place in Hoo Village Square on Sunday 3 June from 12.30pm to 5pm.

It’s free and, as you’ll see from the poster below, lots of entertainment will be provided throughout the afternoon. Make a note of the date and be sure to tell all your friends, family and neighbours!

Another Jubilee event being organised during the long Bank Holiday weekend is the lighting of a community Jubilee beacon. As part of the nationwide celebrations, Hoo will be one of six locations in Medway with a beacon. Located at Kingshill recreation ground (at the end of Fourwents), the beacon will be lit on Monday 4 June at around 10.30pm. I’ll add confirmed arrangements for this event soon.

Lots of events are taking place across Medway and around the Hoo Peninsula. I will try and feature a village by village event listing shortly, looking at all those activities taking place during the special Bank Holiday weekend (from Saturday 2 June to Tuesday 5 June).

If you are organising an event on the Hoo Peninsula and would like it mentioned on this website, send me a copy of your event poster using the contact page.
